POP TRAINING in PARIS VAN JAVA

SUMMARY

Safety awareness is a must for all employees. The frontline supervisors are the first line of employees who are responsible to manage the safety system within their teams. They work side by side with their employees. The close proximity to their employees allows them to notice differences in demeanor or condition that could signal a problem and to take preventative measure against incidents. Therefore, the frontline supervisors have to be competent in their ability to handle safety problems that could arise, especially those which potentially cause injury as well as environmental damages.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

I attended the training on Kompetensi Pengawas Operasional Pertama (POP Training, Competency for Operational Frontline Supervisor) which was conducted by Pusdiklat TMB (Mining TrainingCenter) in Bandung, 16-21 March 09 (08:00am-05:00pm).

take a look at this pic... OMG, how cool my geos friends wearing those ties...ready for class

The training is designed to help frontline supervisors improving their ability to handle any situation affecting their employees or working environment by fully understanding the principles of SHE (Safety, Health and Environment) as written in the 555.K/26/M.PE/1995 tentang Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja pada Pertambangan Umum (Decree of The Minister of Mines and Energy Number 555.K/26/M.PE/1995 On General Mining Occupational Safety and Health).

The training covers 8 main topics, i.e.:
The regulations regarding Safety and Health in General Mining
Basic of Environmental Protection
The techniques of inspection and observation
The responsibility and Accountability of Frontline Supervisor
The techniques of incident investigation and reporting
Hazards Identification
JSA (Job Safety Analysis)
Safety Talk

The main focus of the training was the technique of creating Job Safety Analysis (JSA) as the essential pre-requirement when performing critical tasks by identifying the tasks, analyzing the task in detailed orders, identifying the potential hazards in each step, and determine the control measures of potential hazards.

The tests were carried out on the last day of the training (written test and interview).

RECOMMENDATION

The POP training is very useful for all employees to improve their concept and perception regarding safety and health; especially for the frontline supervisors who play the leading role of safety program and implementation to create a “zero incident” working environment. Therefore, it is recommended that the opportunity to participate in POP training to be given to all staffs in DPM.

Finally, I would like to say thanks to Pak Krisna Indra for giving me the chance to attend the training, to Pak Karlof Sitompul for a perfect arrangement and also to Pak Sawun Tugiman and Pak Sapto Prabowo for sharing their thought and time during the enjoyable days in Bandung.

Health and safety area some of the things that most workers gamble with when they go to work but with the right safety training such as environmental management training or OSHA safety courses, the risks for the dangers in health and safety in the workplace decreases.
